What is uss underhill?

USS Underhill (DE-682) was a Cannon-class destroyer escort in the United States Navy during World War II. It was named after Lieutenant (jg) Robert W. Underhill, who was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his actions during the Battle of Savo Island. Underhill was launched on 16 April 1944 and commissioned on 6 June 1944. The destroyer escort served in the Pacific theater and participated in several operations, including the Battle of Surigao Strait and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war, Underhill was decommissioned on 29 May 1946 and placed in reserve at San Diego. It was later sold for scrap in 1973.
